Indian boxing has scored a significant victory with the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) earning full membership in the International Boxing Association (IBA). The IBA Board greenlit this on February 6, 2026, with formal notification sent from Switzerland on February 9.
President Umar Kremlev lauded IABF President Rakesh Mishra in a congratulatory letter, spotlighting the federation’s dedication, clear governance practices, and alignment with global norms. ‘We are thrilled to have your national federation with us,’ he wrote, expressing optimism for joint efforts in advancing boxing worldwide.
Kremlev envisioned IABF’s participation bringing renewed vigor and direction to the sport’s global push. As full members, Indian boxers gain entry to prestigious IBA tournaments, promising enhanced competition and skill-building opportunities.
This development is set to fortify ties and elevate Indian talent on the world stage. Mishra called it a cornerstone moment, enabling superior training, tech partnerships, and exposure. Thakran, the Secretary General, connected it to PM Modi’s athlete empowerment vision, pledging focus on base-level talent hunts and Olympic readiness.
Under Minister Mandaviya’s direction, IABF is committed to nurturing well-rounded boxers for international success, especially in Olympic events, ensuring India’s voice grows louder in the global ring.
