Swift police action in Kolkata led to the capture of six alleged thieves across two unrelated burglaries. The busts occurred as Commissioner Supratim Sarkar conducted surprise checks on policing efficacy throughout the metropolis.
From Gujarat came four key players: Anil Ramju Salat, Dhiru Kalo Salat, Samir Salat, and Raju Kumar, seized in Hastings by the Intelligence ‘Watch’ team at Lalbazar. They are prime suspects in a Jorasanko theft filed on January 14, evading capture for nearly a month until Saturday’s raid.
Adding to the tally, Muhammad Shahnavaz alias Sunny and Muhammad Samir, both from Entally, were picked up in Park Circus. Linked to a January 20 incident at Girish Park station, they allegedly looted a cab driver’s valuables including cash and mobiles.
Sarkar’s emphasis on daytime patrols, voiced in a crime prevention huddle days prior, set the stage. His personal Saturday rounds ensured directives were in motion, directly contributing to these breakthroughs.
This series of arrests reflects a strategic escalation in Kolkata’s fight against theft, prioritizing rapid response and visibility. As cases proceed to trial, the public can expect continued momentum in curbing street crimes.
