Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unleashed a verbal salvo against Congress on Monday, asserting that numerous leaders from the beleaguered party are actively engaging with BJP ahead of the state assembly polls.
Speaking on the heels of ex-Congress president Bhupen Borah’s departure, Sarma disclosed his extensive outreach. ‘I maintain contact with Congress leaders across the board,’ he affirmed. ‘Just signal availability in BJP, and every Hindu Congressman will defect en masse.’
He diagnosed Congress with acute pre-poll paranoia and ideological void, marked by leadership failures that breed dissatisfaction. This vacuum, Sarma said, is pushing cadres toward more viable alternatives.
Praising BJP’s disciplined machinery and development track record, Sarma noted its magnetic pull. ‘Stability, advancement, and visionary planning are drawing crowds to us,’ he observed. The ruling dispensation is broadening its footprint among Assam’s multifaceted demographics.
Sarma mocked Congress’s evident distrust in its own helm and poll viability, citing a trail of exits, infighting, and ambiguity as telltale signs of decline.
True to form, the BJP government prioritizes substantive work: fostering jobs, upgrading infrastructure, and rolling out welfare initiatives, rather than engaging in opposition squabbles.
As Congress grapples with high-profile resignations and switchover whispers, experts see Sarma’s pronouncement as a masterstroke to amplify BJP’s leverage and unsettle foes in the electoral arena.
