Shocking revelations have emerged from Gaya, Bihar, following the suicide by fire of 30-year-old Satendra Kumar Mahto, who was allegedly hounded by his wife’s multiple affairs and threats of bogus lawsuits. The incident in Sherghati’s Sheikhpura neighborhood paints a grim picture of a crumbling marriage amid festive Shivratri prayers for husbands’ well-being.
Satendra’s family detailed a pattern of discord: his wife, married to him for eight years and mother of two underage girls, was accused by sister Julie Kumari of secret involvements with several men. Prolonged phone chats fueled constant fights, and Satendra’s objections only worsened matters. The wife even manipulated him into acquiring Hyderabad land, nominating her mother.
Caught once in the act, the wife and her mother retaliated with intimidation, vowing to implicate Satendra in false dowry torture and battery complaints. This led to actual police action and his brief arrest, shattering his spirit. Isolated after his family left for her maternal home, Satendra’s depression culminated in self-immolation.
Onlookers tried to save him post the blaze, but he perished. Sherghati thana team, including key officers, examined the spot and postmortem-ed the body at Magadh Medical Hospital. The SHO emphasized rigorous inquiry and impending legal steps per kin’s accounts. The community’s grief underscores urgent needs for addressing marital strife and misuse of laws.
