Global trade dynamics shifted Wednesday as Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd teamed up with Marseille Fos Port in France. The partnership targets innovations in port operations, smoother trade mechanics, energy transformation efforts, and amplified India-to-Europe linkages through the IMEC framework.
Key provisions of the MoU include ramping up coordination on IMEC-route ports and launching an IMEC Ports Club to reinforce India-EU connections. This ambitious corridor, kickstarted at the 2023 G20 in New Delhi, covers 6,000 km with blended sea, rail, digital, and sustainable energy infrastructures linking the subcontinent to Europe.
Ashwani Gupta, APSEZ’s CEO and Director, praised India’s front-runner status in IMEC’s rollout. Anticipating a trade boom with the India-EU FTA, he spotlighted Hazira and Mundra ports’ role in streamlining the corridor’s front and middle phases.
The Marseille tie-up crowns IMEC’s full circuit for India-EU commerce. ‘This MoU fast-tracks exchanges of intel and materials, fortifying partnerships and supply chains,’ Gupta remarked.
Underpinning this is the landmark India-EU FTA, which PM Modi calls the ‘Mother of All Trade.’ Formalized during Macron’s trip, it reflects escalating India-France synergy.
Marseille CEO Hervé Martel hailed the collaboration amid IMEC’s pivotal stage. ‘As endpoints of this vital route, our ports hold the onus to architect and energize it,’ he noted, vowing joint efforts to unify ports for superior, adaptable, and green connectivity.
