South Africa’s T20 World Cup campaign roared into life with a resounding six-wicket victory over UAE, achieved with 40 balls leftover. The target of 123 was knocked off effortlessly in 13.2 overs, signaling the Proteas’ intent in the tournament.
Openers Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock provided a rocket start, plundering 32 in three overs. Markram departed after a swashbuckling 28-ball 11 stint laced with five fours and a six. De Kock added 14 off 16, steadying the ship until the score was 56/2.
Ryan Rickelton exploded for 30 off 16 balls (3×4, 2×6), partnering with Dewald Brevis, who hammered 36 off 25 (1×4, 3×6). Their 49-run alliance in quick time left little doubt about the outcome.
The lower order contributed minimally as Stubbs (6*) and Smith (3*) finished unbeaten. In response, South Africa’s bowlers had earlier bundled UAE out for 122/6. Alishan Sharafu’s 45 was the lone bright spot.
Pace ace Corbin Bosch led the charge, his economical 3/12 from four overs accounting for key wickets including Sharma, Khan, and Arafat. Enrique Nortje grabbed 2/28, snaring Sharafu and Haider, with George Linde adding 1/17.
Bosch’s brilliance fetched him the Player of the Match accolade, as South Africa laid down a strong marker.
