India makes history with a Guinness World Record: over 250,946 citizens pledged for responsible AI in a single day. Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the achievement at the prestigious India AI Impact Summit 2026, marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s tech journey.
The record was set during a 24-hour window from February 16-17, 2026, through the AI Responsibility Pledge drive on aipledge.indiaai.gov.in. Spearheaded by India AI Mission alongside Intel India, it encouraged commitments to vital principles—data privacy, transparency, accountability, and misinformation countermeasures.
Surpassing the 5,000-pledge target exponentially, the campaign showcased extraordinary public involvement. ‘This reflects the path forward for responsible AI adoption,’ Vaishnaw stated, attributing success to PM Narendra Modi’s emphasis on societal benefits from technology.
Successful participants gained digital badges and AI learning access, while Guinness adjudicators validated the numbers on-site at Bharat Mandapam. The summit drew global dignitaries, industry leaders, and experts debating AI’s inclusive potential.
This triumph highlights India’s proactive stance on AI governance amid rapid advancements. By mobilizing millions ethically, the country not only claims a world record but also pioneers a model for balancing innovation with responsibility, ensuring AI empowers rather than endangers society.
