Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is cracking down on delays plaguing the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) flyover, levying a conclusive ₹50 lakh fine on the contractor for missing deadlines.
Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar’s Wednesday inspection at the Phase 3(A) site—from Dindoshi Court, bending 90 degrees at Ratnagiri Junction to Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari—exposed timeline violations. This 1.26 km structure with rotary is pivotal for fluid traffic flow between Mumbai’s suburbs.
At 75% done, 31 pillars stand tall, and 20 of 30 spans are executed. Urgent priorities: remaining spans, beam-laying, slab pouring, and approach roads, all targeted for monsoon-proof completion ahead of the May 31, 2026 launch.
Bangar, irked by the lethargy, instructed workforce and equipment boosts alongside the penalty. Chitranagari’s flyover ramp faces blocks from drainage systems, sewage, and Adani Power infrastructure—immediate fixes demanded.
Extending his visit, Bangar checked the twin tunnels’ launching shaft in Goregaon. This 200m-long, 50m-wide, 30m-deep pit has finished primary excavation; cradle work progresses. TBM operations await 350 MT (on-site) and 800 MT cranes (due end-February).
BMC’s aggressive oversight reflects the stakes: GMLR’s success could redefine suburban mobility, cutting jams and enhancing safety in one of India’s busiest metros.
