Arunachal Pradesh’s security grid tightened further as forces nabbed a notorious NSCN-IM terrorist in Longding, unearthing a stockpile of arms meant for a violent strike. The meticulously planned joint exercise on Friday prevented potential bloodshed in the insurgency-prone area.
Intelligence-led maneuvers by Assam Rifles, Special Task Force, and district police converged at Tising, close to Jua village in Longding jurisdiction. They collared 35-year-old Ponglem Wangpan, alias Captain, who commanded a compact terror cell infiltrating from across the border.
Searches yielded sophisticated firepower: a magazine-loaded 5.56 mm INSAS rifle, 9 mm pistol with magazine, 18 rounds of rifle ammo, and two pistol bullets. The group aimed to execute kidnappings or assassinations against undisclosed objectives, probing vulnerabilities in the region.
Legal proceedings kicked off with an FIR at the local station, as sleuths probe deeper connections. Extensive area searches are flushing out accomplices, bolstering defenses.
Concurrently, in Namsai, police intercepted 133 grams of heroin—street value around seven lakhs—leading to a woman’s arrest under NDPS provisions. These triumphs reflect Arunachal’s proactive defense against terror outfits and drug syndicates.
