Oman’s captain had boldly predicted an upset, but Australia turned it into a rout, winning by nine wickets with 62 balls leftover in their T20 World Cup group finale. At Pallekele Stadium, the Aussies overhauled 105 in 9.4 overs for the loss of one wicket, underlining their superiority.
Openers Travis Head and skipper Mitchell Marsh tore apart Oman’s attack. Head’s 32 off 19 balls, studded with six fours, set the platform before he holed out. Marsh remained not out on 64 from 33 balls, hammering seven fours and four sixes in a captain’s knock. Wicketkeeper Josh Inglis finished unbeaten on 12 off six, with two boundaries.
Oman, put in to bat, folded tamely for 104 in 16.2 overs. Wasim Ali led with 32 (33 balls, four fours), but Jatinder Singh (17), Hammad Mirza (16), and Karan Sonavale (12) offered little else. The rest failed to hit double digits.
Australia’s bowlers were relentless: Adam Zampa’s 4-21 in 3.2 overs earned him Player of the Match. Glenn Maxwell grabbed 2-13 in three overs, Xavier Bartlett 2-27, and Stoinis plus Ellis one apiece.
This victory closes Australia’s 2026 World Cup chapter, hampered by prior losses to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Oman’s four straight defeats highlight their inexperience. Group stage over, Super 8s start February 21.
