Seychelles Vice President Sebastian Pillay’s Friday visit to Vice President CP Radhakrishnan in New Delhi marked a key step in amplifying India-Seychelles strategic alliance, timed perfectly ahead of their golden diplomatic jubilee in 2026.
Talks zeroed in on bolstering maritime security cooperation and defense interoperability. Opportunities for transshipment were brainstormed, coupled with strategies to enhance mutual market penetration. Their Indian Ocean proximity demands robust maritime collaboration, both sides agreed.
A major focus was renewable energy, with India’s vast experience in solar set to propel Seychelles’ renewable ambitions through targeted solar and green tech initiatives. Health and housing partnerships were earmarked for expansion, emphasizing sustainable models that directly uplift communities.
The leaders lauded the trajectory of bilateral relations established in 1976, underpinned by strong diaspora ties, cultural exchanges, and people-centric interactions. They vowed to harness untapped potentials moving forward.
The meeting aligned with Pillay’s attendance at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 as Global South envoy, following his February 18 landing welcomed by Minister Dr. Raj Bhushan Chaudhary. It echoed Radhakrishnan’s prior October 2025 trip to Seychelles, meeting President Herminie and Pillay, reinforcing this vital partnership.
