In a bold step towards aviation resurgence, Tripura CM Manik Saha led a crucial review on Saturday targeting the reactivation of Kailashahar airport in Unakoti, dormant for an extended period. This comes amid efforts to bolster the state’s air infrastructure.
Saha instructed AAI to deploy a team for a hands-on evaluation of the 140-km distant site from Agartala. A holistic feasibility document is required, benchmarking it against Kamalpur and Khowai, with specifics on land, obstacles, and multifaceted benefit-cost analyses.
Emphasis was placed on commercial potential, technical readiness, and fiscal prudence to ensure viable restarts.
The meeting featured AAI heavyweights like Gyan Batra and Krishna Mohan Nehra, who brainstormed on runway lengthening, advanced amenities, and scaling for wide-body jets.
Post-report, the government plans ministry-level dialogues for next steps. AAI’s technical squad is set to probe the airport’s operational and structural integrity shortly.
Joint commitment was voiced for synchronized revival work. Agartala’s airport, Northeast’s number two after Guwahati, stands to gain from this network expansion, promising better access, job creation, and regional integration.
