In a move celebrating Delhi’s vibrant locales, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, as SNA Chairperson, has greenlit new names for metro stations, prioritizing public emotion and regional character. The February 22 announcement follows a meticulous evaluation of DMRC’s 21-station DPR.
Decisions broke down as 12 names unchanged, seven revised, and two freshly minted. ‘These aren’t just labels; they’re mirrors to our neighborhoods’ history and heartbeat,’ Gupta remarked, detailing consultations with locals and leaders.
Focus areas: unambiguous location markers, cultural resonance, and historical nods. Hybrid names emerged for better orientation, marrying station specifics with broader area references.
Stations intact: Majlis Park, Bhalswa, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Deepali Chowk, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Khajuri Khas, Sur Ghat, Jharoda Majra, Burari, Pushpanjali, Maujpur-Babarpur.
Updates feature Uttari Pitampura-Prashant Vihar (ex-Prashant Vihar), Jagatpur-Vazirabad (Jagatpur), Nanak Pyau-Derawal Nagar (Derawal Nagar), Khanpur-Vayusenabad (Khanpur), Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar (Sonia Vihar), Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar (Mayur Vihar Pocket-1), Mangolpuri Kalan-West Enclave (West Enclave).
Bold changes: North Pitampura to Haiderpur Village; Pitampura station to Madhuban Chowk, rooting them in authentic village lore.
Gupta reaffirmed the process’s transparency, with every proposal vetted thoroughly. This aligns Delhi’s metro with its people’s pulse, enhancing usability and pride. Looking ahead, the authority welcomes reasoned inputs for ongoing evolution.
