The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken stern action against Manzurul Islam, prohibiting his participation in any cricket activities within its purview following an investigation into misconduct allegations. Former women’s team selector and ex-international player Manzurul now faces isolation from the sport he once represented.
Triggering the probe was a complaint from Jahanara Alam, ex-captain of Bangladesh women, accusing him of sexual harassment at the 2022 World Cup. The independent committee scrutinized four claims: two dismissed for lack of proof, but two upheld with evidence of improper behavior.
Manzurul’s roles ended in June last year, but his past conduct didn’t align with professional ethics or Supreme Court harassment protocols. BCB declared: ‘Post-investigation of Jahanara’s allegations, Manzurul Islam is banned from direct or indirect BCB cricket engagements.’
In other news, selector chief Ghazi Ashraf Hossain gets a one-month extension past February 28. Excitement builds for the debut women’s Bangladesh Premier League, slated April 4-14.
This ruling not only addresses a specific grievance but also bolsters BCB’s reputation for upholding integrity. As women’s cricket gains momentum in Bangladesh, such measures ensure a safer, more equitable playing field for emerging talents.
