In a major win for integrity in Bihar’s bureaucracy, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau arrested two officials on Tuesday for bribery. A survey amin in Supaul and a block supply officer in Samastipur were ensnared during sting operations, reinforcing the fight against endemic corruption.
The Supaul case unfolded from a complaint by Jagnarayan Yadav of Muraina’s Khorma village. Survey amin Vikram Kumar Ram had been delaying land measurements, insisting on Rs 20,000. Bureau verification led to a trap team under DSP Narendra Kumar storming Ram’s Nirmali Nagar Panchayat residence, where he was nabbed with the cash.
Across districts, Samastipur’s Ujiyarpur supply officer Rajesh Kumar Bhagat was accused of seeking Rs 10,000 to boost public distribution allotments. A vigilance squad verified the claim and raided his home, capturing the transaction live.
Police cases are filed, with detailed interrogations ongoing before court remand. This marks the bureau’s 17th red-handed arrest this year, with bribes exceeding Rs 7 lakh confiscated. Such actions not only punish the guilty but deter others, fostering public trust in government services.
