A shining moment for Jharkhand sports: Chief Minister Hemant Soren hosted Commonwealth Chess Championship 2025 gold medalist Adhiraj Mitra at his Ranchi residence. The 14-year-old under-14 category champion from Jamshedpur marked his international debut with a stellar performance in Malaysia last November.
In a warm courtesy call, Adhiraj recounted his matches against formidable opponents from Commonwealth nations. Studying in Class 8 at Loyola School, he demonstrated the blend of academics and athletics that led to his success. Accompanied by parents Runa and Uttam Mitra, and coach Abhishek Das, the family celebrated the milestone together.
Soren congratulated the young talent, highlighting Jharkhand athletes’ prowess on global platforms. ‘You’re lighting the way for others,’ he remarked, offering blessings for future conquests.
This event spotlights the state’s commitment to nurturing sports excellence. Adhiraj’s victory not only boosts chess in Jharkhand but also inspires underprivileged youth to pursue strategic games, potentially transforming the region’s sports landscape.
