New Zealand’s white-ball campaign faces early turbulence as opener Georgia Plimmer withdraws from the ODI series against Zimbabwe with a nagging shoulder issue. Bella James, on standby since Sunday’s T20 call-up, now officially joins the squad.
Reflecting on the loss, head coach Ben Sawyer noted, ‘Plimmer’s top-order role and infectious energy are irreplaceable. It’s tough seeing her miss out.’
A seasoned campaigner, James debuted in ODIs against Australia in late 2024, featuring in two outings. Though unused in the recent World Cup, her extensive List-A record—approaching 100 games—positions her well. Sawyer praised, ‘She’s primed with quality experience and will blend right in.’
Debut doors open for Nancy Patel and Izzy Sharp. Patel’s T20 exploits included a five-for against Zimbabwe, while Sharp anchored innings with 18* and 22*.
From March 5, the series integrates into the ICC Women’s Championship 2025-2029 points table. Building on their T20 series domination (3-0), the Kiwis target comprehensive victory.
Team Lineup: Amelia Kerr (capt), Izzy Gaze, Maddie Green, Brooke Halliday, Bree Illing, Polly Inglis, Bella James, Jess Kerr, Emma MacLeod, Rosemary Mair, Nancy Patel, Molly Penfold, Izzy Sharp.
