Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya took center stage in New Delhi to reveal the emblem of the Cycling League of India, heralding the advent of the globe’s first road cycling franchise model. This Thursday’s ceremony underscores a transformative phase for cycling in the country.
Emphasizing its significance, Mandaviya said, ‘This is a defining moment that will professionalize cycling, nurture young athletes, and align with our fit India mission.’ The league is set to attract worldwide focus while building a robust talent ecosystem.
Riding the wave of events such as the Pune Grand Tour, Ahmedabad’s cycling league, and nationwide Sunday on Cycle programs, the CLI will motivate a new generation of riders. Mandaviya is confident these efforts will solidify cycling’s place in Indian sports culture.
Comprising eight city-based teams, each with ten cyclists—including two global pros and two juniors—the league prioritizes both competition and future growth.
The tournament format includes three progressive stages ending in a grand finale, featuring criterium races, team time trials, and mass start challenges. Tailored for high drama and strategy, it leverages India’s burgeoning cycling scene to deliver unforgettable spectacles.
