Chhattisgarh is poised to make history as the host of India’s first Khelo India Tribal Games, announced by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. Running March 26 to April 6 across Raipur, Jagdalpur, and Surguja, the multi-city extravaganza will feature top tribal athletes vying for glory.
Seven core events—athletics, football, hockey, weightlifting, archery, swimming, wrestling—will award medals, complemented by mallakhamb and kabaddi demos. Participants from numerous states and UTs ensure a vibrant, competitive atmosphere.
The minister described KITG as essential to PM Modi’s developed India dream, providing platforms for every game-loving youth, especially from tribal belts. ‘Expanding our athlete pool from these areas is vital,’ he noted, committing to early talent scouting and robust support systems.
Bilaspur’s B.R. Yadav Stadium saw the grand launch of the event’s branding on December 23, with Chhattisgarh CM and Deputy CM in attendance. Mascot Morveer captures tribal essence: ‘our brave one,’ symbolizing pride and resilience.
A collaborative effort by the sports ministry, SAI, IOA, federations, and state organizers, the games meet world-class standards. This Khelo India initiative, declared a national priority event, advances mass participation and sporting supremacy.
