In a display of raw talent and determination, India’s youth boxers launched their World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 campaign with three emphatic wins on day one in Bangkok. Joyshree Devi Chiro (54kg women), Ambekar Meetei Lairenlakkpam (50kg men), and Sahil Duhaan (60kg men) emerged victorious, boosting national spirits.
Joyshree’s second-round RSC win over Tajikistan highlighted her knockout prowess and ring generalship. Ambekar and Sahil followed suit, both securing 5-0 unanimous decisions against foes from Philippines and China respectively, underscoring India’s technical edge.
Held from March 8 to 15, the tournament in Youth Olympic weights is more than a competition – it’s a launchpad for future Olympic hopefuls, offering critical international experience in the global boxing circuit.
Building on their Bahrain Asian Youth Games triumph (4 golds, 2 silvers, 1 bronze), India’s 10-strong delegation is geared for success. The women’s contingent comprises Gunjan (48kg), Chandrika (51kg), Joyshree (54kg), Radhamani (57kg), and Prachi (60kg). Men include Ambekar (50kg), Udhamsingh (55kg), Sahil (60kg), Aman (65kg), and Priyansh (70kg).
‘This Futures Cup is essential for pitting our youth against world-class opposition in Olympic categories,’ said BFI President Ajay Singh. ‘It’s the perfect preparation for Youth Olympics, and our team is determined to seize the moment.’
With early momentum secured, Indian boxing enthusiasts anticipate a string of medals, as these young warriors continue to punch above their weight on the world stage.
