As Middle East volatility intensifies, India ramps up evacuation drives for its nationals in Iran. MEA confirmed Thursday that EAM S. Jaishankar spoke thrice with FM Seyed Abbas Araghchi in recent days, tackling maritime safety and energy concerns in their final exchange.
Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the urgency: nearly 9,000 Indians, comprising students, merchant navy personnel, entrepreneurs, experts, and pilgrims, remain or were present in the country. Scores of students have repatriated, and vulnerable groups in the capital have been evacuated to safer urban centers.
Land route assistance via Azerbaijan and Armenia is robust—visas are expedited, and border facilitation ensured. ‘We’ve enabled many to reach there and fly home commercially,’ Jaiswal said, reiterating the call to heed embassy advisories for overland travel.
Jaiswal expressed deep concern for citizen welfare, affirming continuous support. This revelation paints a picture of tireless diplomacy amid crisis, with India balancing security talks and humanitarian aid. Expect further measures as the scenario demands.
