Nagaland’s political landscape sees a fresh appointment with Bihar’s veteran leader Nand Kishore Yadav poised to be sworn in as its 23rd Governor this Friday at Raj Bhavan, Kohima. The 73-year-old arrived Thursday to a rousing reception by CM Neiphiu Rio and officials, signaling high anticipation for his leadership.
Announced by President Droupadi Murmu on March 5 amid a series of gubernatorial changes, Yadav steps into the vacancy left by Ajay Kumar Bhalla. Bhalla had taken additional charge post the August 15 passing of La. Ganesan, managing both Nagaland and Manipur since late August.
Social media lit up with welcomes. CM Rio tweeted congratulations and expressed eagerness to partner for state welfare. Deputy CM Patton lauded Yadav’s ‘decades of public service,’ predicting wise guidance towards peace and prosperity.
Tracing his roots, Yadav joined RSS in 1969, became active in ABVP by 1971, and helmed Bihar BJP from 1998-2003. His ministerial stints and recent role as Bihar Assembly’s 17th Speaker highlight his stature. A record seven-term MLA from Patna Sahib, he’s a BJP heavyweight whose selection honors his lifelong dedication.
Experts view this as a strategic pick for the Northeast, where Yadav’s experience in coalition politics and public administration could prove transformative. Key priorities likely include peace negotiations, economic corridors, youth empowerment, and tourism boost.
The ceremony caps a smooth transition, with Yadav’s arrival underscoring Delhi’s commitment to Northeast stability. As he pledges to uphold the Constitution, Nagaland eyes a future of strengthened governance, inclusive policies, and accelerated growth under his stewardship.
