While preparing to implement NFSA across the country, the government is working to modernize the public distribution system and bring transparency and efficiency in its operations, digitization of ration cards and beneficiaries database.
Apart from this, the data has been prepared by connecting the ration card to Aadhaar, identifying ineligible or fake ration cards, preventing duplication of digitized data and identifying cases of beneficiaries going away or dying.
Based on this, a total of about 4.39 crore ineligible or fake ration cards in the country have been canceled by the governments of the states and 7 union territories of the country from 2013 to 2020.
Apart from this, the respective quota issued for NFSA coverage is being used regularly by the concerned State and Union Territories for accurate identification of beneficiaries under NFSA.
Under this, work is on to include eligible beneficiary families and issue new ration cards to them. This work is being done within the respective limits of coverage defined for each state and union territory under the Act.
