Aadhaar Card Deemed Invalid for Birth Proof in UP, MH

Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra are no longer accepting Aadhaar cards as a substitute for official birth certificates. This policy change, announced by the Planning Department in UP, affects all government agencies and underscores the inadequacy of Aadhaar as primary birth documentation. In Maharashtra, the government is taking further steps to ensure document integrity. Aadhaar will be rejected as a supporting document for obtaining delayed birth certificates. Critically, any birth certificates issued solely based on Aadhaar after the enforcement of the Births and Deaths Registration (Amendment) Act, 2023, will be nullified. This decisive move aims to put an end to the circulation of fake birth and death records, which have been exploited for illegal activities. Maharashtra’s Revenue Department is reviewing numerous applications and has mandated strict verification procedures, including police complaints for discrepancies found between Aadhaar details and birth records.
