This Digital Technology is Improving the Quality of Treatment

Raipur, April 19, 2025/ In the state of Chhattisgarh, digital technology is now being used extensively in the screening, treatment, and monitoring of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer. The Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, launched under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, is proving to be a game-changer in this direction.

Through the ABHA ID, patients can securely store their health records digitally and easily share them with doctors or healthcare workers when needed. This ID also makes it easier to share information between hospitals, clinics, and laboratories, thereby improving the quality of treatment.

In Chhattisgarh, the ABHA ID has been linked to the National NCD Portal. This has streamlined the process of screening, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients. Mobile and tablet-based apps have been provided for ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) and Community Health Officers, and web portals for primary health centers, making it easier to work.

Director of Health Services, Dr. Priyanka Shukla, says that creating ABHA IDs is a priority for the state government. This will help in the prevention and management of diseases like NCDs. A positive impact of this initiative is being seen in Durg district. Between January 2024 and February 2025, 12,627 ABHA IDs were linked to the records of NCD patients. As a result, the follow-up rate in patients linked with ABHA reached 68 percent, while it was only 37 percent in patients without ABHA ID. Similarly, improvements were also seen in the control of blood pressure and diabetes in patients linked with ABHA. 49 percent of the patients were in control, while this figure was 29 percent in non-linked patients. Healthcare workers have been trained with the help of WHO.

The state government and the World Health Organization team are continuously monitoring this entire process. WHO has also created training videos in Hindi to simplify the process of linking the ABHA ID with Aadhaar’s demographic information. In Chhattisgarh, this digital initiative is not only proving helpful in the prevention of diseases, but it has also increased trust in the services of the health department.
