Sanjay Singh, a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and a Member of Parliament, has strongly criticized the Narendra Modi government for the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk, a prominent activist in Ladakh. Wangchuk is actively seeking full statehood for Ladakh-Kargil, along with the guarantee of essential rights in areas like education, healthcare, and employment. Singh accused the Modi government of acting dictatorially, using the arrest as an example, and warned that such actions could spark significant public backlash.

Singh noted that Wangchuk is a patriot dedicated to the people of Ladakh. Singh elaborated that Wangchuk has been working to educate underprivileged children and has tirelessly demanded that the government grant the people of Ladakh their rights. These demands include education, employment, land, health, and full statehood for Ladakh-Kargil. He has engaged in peaceful protests, including a hunger strike and a padyatra to Delhi. Singh questioned why the government was targeting Wangchuk for his advocacy, especially considering his commitment to peace.

Singh further criticized the government’s labeling of Wangchuk as ‘anti-national’ and the imposition of the National Security Act (NSA). He cautioned Prime Minister Modi, pointing out that the people of Ladakh are true patriots, having always supported the nation and opposed Chinese incursions. Singh emphasized that the people of Leh, Ladakh, and Kargil have always been supportive of the Indian Army and the Government of India. The AAP, Singh affirmed, stands in solidarity with Sonam Wangchuk, the people of Ladakh, and their aspirations.
