However, there’s an unfortunate turn of events: Sharma cannot bring his HAVAL H9 SUV prize to India due to legal issues.
Sharma’s performance in the Asia Cup was outstanding. He scored 314 runs over seven innings, with an average of 44.86 and a 200 strike rate. His impressive stats included three half-centuries, 32 fours, and 19 sixes. His quick starts propelled India to victory in many matches, and assisted the team in securing the championship. Although he didn’t have a significant innings in the final, his overall performance during the tournament was praiseworthy, and he was gifted a HAVAL H9 SUV, a luxury off-road vehicle celebrated for its impressive appearance and features. However, this prize has encountered a legal obstacle.
The HAVAL H9, despite its stylish design, doesn’t comply with Indian laws. The vehicle features a left-hand drive (LHD), but India only permits right-hand drive (RHD) vehicles. According to India’s road safety and vehicle registration laws, left-hand drive cars cannot be registered or used within the country. Consequently, Sharma is unable to bring the SUV to India or use it. Initially, there was curiosity among fans as to why the car was left behind, but the reason is now evident: the car does not meet Indian legal requirements.
Reports indicate that HAVAL might introduce an RHD variant of this SUV in India by November 2025. If this happens, Sharma might be offered a new, compliant model. However, neither the company nor the tournament organizers have provided an official statement.
