The BJP has appointed Rajya Sabha member Aditya Sahu as the working president of its Jharkhand unit. Sahu acknowledged the support of PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, emphasizing that his focus is on the party and national interests. He committed to serving the BJP with integrity, dedication, and commitment.
This appointment, made by BJP’s National President JP Nadda, replaces Ravindra Kumar Rai. Rai was assigned the role last October, before the state’s assembly elections. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha emerged victorious, defeating the BJP-led NDA. Sahu was subsequently nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2022 and elected without opposition.
The change, occurring within a year, highlights the party’s goal to restructure its state unit and strengthen its organizational presence. Sahu conveyed his thanks to PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, JP Nadda, and other leaders. Speaking in Ranchi, Sahu stated, “I have been a BJP worker since 1980 and will serve the party with honesty, commitment, and dedication. The party and national interests are paramount to me.”
At the state party office in Ranchi, Sahu was welcomed by fellow party members. He expressed his gratitude to the top leadership and vowed to meet expectations. Sahu recounted his early experiences, including distributing election slips in 1980. He recalled how fear of vote buying existed and his role in supporting the party during difficult times. He advanced to become district vice-president and held various organizational roles, including two terms as the organization’s general secretary. Now, he assumes the role of working state president. The appointment of Aditya Sahu, who is from the Other Backward Classes (OBC), is considered a strategic attempt by the BJP’s leadership to gain the support of the OBC community in Jharkhand. Sahu, from Kunchu village in Ranchi, has been associated with the BJP for over 40 years. He is known to have a strong connection with the public and is a current BJP Rajya Sabha MP. He also has a background in teaching.
