The earthquake in Afghanistan has resulted in a tragic loss of life, with the death toll exceeding 1,400. Numerous individuals have also been injured. The initial earthquake on Monday in eastern Afghanistan caused over 800 deaths and left more than 2,800 people injured. Rescue operations are currently ongoing, however, the difficult terrain is hindering efforts in reaching isolated villages. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) confirmed that a strong 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan on Monday morning, with tremors felt throughout the region, including parts of Pakistan. Subsequently, a series of aftershocks occurred, ranging from 4 to 5 in magnitude.
In response to the disaster, India has committed to providing humanitarian assistance to support relief efforts. The Ministry of External Affairs posted on social media, sharing images of aid deliveries to demonstrate India’s dedication to assisting Afghanistan. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke with Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, expressing his condolences and assuring support. India has already delivered 1,000 family tents and is dispatching 15 tonnes of food material. Additional relief materials will be sent from India shortly. India pledges to support Afghanistan during this challenging time.
