A recent incident involving a patient referral from AIIMS Deoghar to RIMS Ranchi without adequate treatment has drawn a sharp rebuke from Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari. The minister has issued a firm message emphasizing zero tolerance for negligence in patient care at the premier medical institute.

Late Friday night, the Health Minister received an urgent appeal from a resident of Basanli village in Deoghar, detailing the severe condition of her husband. Dr. Ansari promptly rerouted his schedule to visit the village, where he personally assessed the patient’s medical status and gathered information from the distressed family.

The inquiry revealed that the patient, who comes from a financially disadvantaged tribal community, was first directed to AIIMS Deoghar. However, the family alleged that the hospital referred them to RIMS without providing any form of treatment. This alleged oversight at AIIMS Deoghar has led to significant dissatisfaction and criticism from the Health Minister.

Dr. Ansari expressed his dismay, stating that AIIMS should be a beacon of hope for the poor and marginalized. He questioned the institution’s effectiveness if it fails to offer even basic care before referring patients. The minister stressed the importance of transparency regarding resource limitations and indicated his readiness to personally confront the AIIMS Deoghar administration to address these issues and establish accountability.

In response to the immediate crisis, the Health Minister arranged for the patient’s urgent ambulance transfer to Ranchi and provided the family with financial assistance to support their treatment needs. Assurances have been made for the patient’s well-being and comprehensive medical attention in Ranchi. Dr. Ansari concluded by stating that his actions stem from a sense of responsibility to serve the public and underscored the government’s unwavering dedication to providing superior healthcare services to the underprivileged.
