The application of artificial intelligence is expanding rapidly across diverse areas. Now, AI is also making its way into government and politics. Albania has set a precedent by appointing an AI minister within its government with the primary goal of addressing corruption. This decision positions Albania as the first country to have a virtual minister. The AI minister, whose name is Diela, meaning ‘sun,’ is intended to improve transparency and combat corruption effectively.
Prime Minister Edi Rama mentioned that Diela would be a member of the cabinet. The AI-generated bot will assist in making certain government contracts are 100% corruption-free, contributing to government operations with full transparency. As stated by Albania’s National Agency for Information Society, Diela will apply the latest AI models and techniques in carrying out her duties.
