China is the foremost contributor to global carbon emissions, releasing approximately 11.9 billion metric tons of CO₂ in 2023. The United States is the second-largest emitter, producing 4.9 billion metric tons. India follows in third place, with 3 billion metric tons. Russia and Japan also contribute significantly to global pollution, with 1.8 and 0.988 billion metric tons of CO₂ emissions, respectively. China’s President Xi Jinping has stated an intent to cut carbon emissions by 7-10% by 2035. In contrast, former US President Donald Trump has voiced skepticism regarding climate change. The global community continues to grapple with rising temperatures and escalating greenhouse gas emissions.
