Andrew Flintoff has concluded his two-year tenure as head coach of the Northern Superchargers, announcing his departure following a contractual dispute with the team’s new Indian ownership, Sun Group. Flintoff cited a failure to agree on terms as the reason for stepping down before the 2026 season of The Hundred. The former England star, who took up his first senior coaching role with the Superchargers in late 2023, expressed that he felt his contributions were not adequately recognized financially. Under his guidance, the Superchargers saw an upward trend in performance, culminating in a third-place league finish this year, though their playoff aspirations were cut short by adverse weather. Flintoff is also currently involved with the England Lions. He articulated his disappointment on a recent podcast, stating that the offered salary was significantly below that of other head coaches in The Hundred and that he needed to feel valued to continue. He also noted that the new owners seemed reluctant to change their offer. While the franchise maintains they made a strong offer to retain him, Flintoff has opted to seek opportunities elsewhere. He has confirmed receiving interest from other teams, with speculation linking him to potential coaching roles at the Manchester Originals and Trent Rockets.
