Andrew Flintoff has officially stepped down as head coach of the Northern Superchargers, ending his two-year spell with the Hundred franchise. The decision comes after contract negotiations with the team’s new Indian owners, the Sun Group, failed to reach a satisfactory agreement for both parties.

Flintoff, who took on the role in November 2023, his first major senior coaching position, indicated on a podcast that the financial terms proposed by the Sun Group did not align with his perceived value. He expressed that he felt undervalued, suggesting his compensation was significantly lower than that of his peers in the league.

“I wasn’t encouraged they wanted me anyway, but then also you want to feel valued,” Flintoff remarked, explaining his stance. He added that he was sad to leave, as he felt the team was developing well under his leadership. He also mentioned that the new owners were unwilling to adjust their offer.

The Northern Superchargers, under Flintoff, demonstrated consistent improvement. They finished fourth in the league in 2024 and improved to third place this year. Their playoff hopes were ultimately dashed when a rain-interrupted Eliminator match against the Trent Rockets saw them eliminated based on league position.

Flintoff continues to coach the England Lions, managing their winter tour of Australia. While the franchise stated they offered a higher salary to retain him, Flintoff’s departure opens up possibilities for other Hundred teams. He has confirmed receiving interest from other franchises for the 2026 season but is currently taking a measured approach to his future coaching commitments.
