Afghanistan was hit by another earthquake on Thursday, this time a 5.8 magnitude event in the southeastern province. This followed a previous earthquake in the Kunar province. The German research center provided details on the quake.

The earthquake’s origin was 10 kilometers (6.21 miles) deep, according to the GFD.

This event occurs after a series of earthquakes that occurred earlier this week, resulting in more than 2,200 deaths and over 3,600 injuries. The earlier quakes caused widespread destruction in the country’s eastern region, including the destruction of villages and displacement of many people.

A major 6-magnitude earthquake on Sunday in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces was one of the most damaging to hit Afghanistan in recent times.

About 1,400 people have died, and thousands are homeless, with aid groups reporting diminishing resources. The United Nations and other organizations have highlighted the pressing need for food, shelter, and medical aid.

Prior to Thursday’s earthquake, a destructive event in Afghanistan’s Kunar province had already caused significant damage, wiping out entire villages. The United Nations has identified an urgent need for food, shelter, and medical assistance, and the death toll is expected to increase.

In response to the ongoing situation, various countries and international bodies are offering assistance. India has also delivered 21 tons of relief supplies to Afghanistan, comprising food, medicine, and additional support.
