Apple is gearing up to introduce the iPhone 17 series at the forthcoming event scheduled for September 9th. As is customary before new iPhone launches, discussions are already underway. A key point of discussion focuses on the potential removal of the physical SIM slot, which could mean that certain models of the iPhone 17 series will exclusively support eSIM.

The iPhone 14 series in the United States already offers eSIM-only models, eliminating the SIM tray. This change may extend to countries in Europe, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands.

MacRumors reports that Apple has implemented mandatory training related to eSIM for authorized resellers within these countries. The training is scheduled to be completed by September 5th, using Apple’s SEED app.

In 2022, Apple started removing the physical SIM slot with the iPhone 14 series in the United States. This change may extend further with the iPhone 17 series. Benefits include reduced risk of SIM theft, instant activation and deactivation, and the ability to use multiple profiles on one phone.

In markets such as India, both physical SIM slots and eSIM options are currently available. This points towards a future where iPhones in India, and other markets, could become exclusively eSIM-based.

The Apple event might reveal the design and features of the iPhone 17 Series. Additionally, new iOS updates, eSIM-only models, and the potential introduction of new Apple Watch and Mac devices could be announced.
