Cyclone Shakthi, classified as a Severe Cyclonic Storm, is currently positioned over the northwest Arabian Sea, moving west-southwest at 15 kmph in the last six hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported a movement of 17 kmph over the previous six hours. The storm is forecast to continue its west-southwest trajectory, reaching the northwest and adjoining west-central Arabian Sea by the evening of Sunday, October 5th. Heavy rainfall is expected in the East Vidarbha and Marathwada regions due to the cyclone’s influence. The IMD has issued a heavy rain warning for Mumbai and certain parts of Gujarat. Mumbai can anticipate scattered light rain until October 8th, 2025. The North Maharashtra coast may experience wind speeds of 45–55 km/h, with gusts potentially reaching 65 km/h, until Sunday, October 5th. The cyclone is anticipated to affect the Maharashtra and Gujarat coasts by October 6th. Staying updated on weather conditions is advised for all residents. The Regional Meteorological Center, Mumbai, has indicated a likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, along with light to moderate rain and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, in isolated areas of South-Konkan-Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada. Coastal district collectors in Saurashtra returned to their districts, and Sunday leaves for Collectorate staff were cancelled as a precaution. The cyclone is expected to remain offshore. Cyclone Shakthi is likely to change direction from October 6th, moving eastward while gradually weakening.
