The modernization of roads in Araria, Bihar, has unfortunately coincided with a spike in road accidents, claiming seven lives in the last five days. The improved road conditions have led to increased vehicle speeds, but this has also exacerbated the risk of accidents. A major concern is the widespread flouting of traffic rules, especially on the National Highway, which is directly contributing to the rise in fatalities.

On Saturday evening, a collision near the Simraha overbridge on the Araria-Forbisganj National Highway resulted in three fatalities. Before that, on Thursday, a 30-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run involving an unidentified truck. Also on Thursday evening, an elderly 75-year-old man lost his life after being struck by an unknown vehicle on the Simraha-Saifganj road in the Forbisganj block. Further, on June 9th, in the Mahilgaon police station area, two youths died, and three others were injured when their vehicle crashed due to maize drying on the road.

The families of the victims, including the biryani shop owner and his two staff members, are now facing immense grief. National Highways 327E and 77, running through the Raniganj area, are witnessing a troubling number of accidents, resulting in tragic loss of life.
