The Pakistan Cricket Board has suspended Usman Wahla, the Director of International Cricket, in the wake of Pakistan’s recent defeat to India in the Asia Cup 2025. The primary cause for the suspension is the controversy surrounding the refusal of the post-match handshake by the Indian team. After the match, Indian players, including captain Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube, refrained from the customary handshake and went directly to their changing room. The PCB says match referee Andy Pycroft directed that there be no handshake at the coin toss. The PCB contends that Wahla did not take timely action, specifically in raising the issue formally with the ICC. The delay, according to the PCB, damaged Pakistan’s standing. The board has also filed protests with the ICC and the MCC, accusing match referee Andy Pycroft of violating the ICC Code of Conduct. The PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has stated that the nation’s honor is of utmost importance. Furthermore, the PCB has threatened to boycott its upcoming game against the UAE if its demands aren’t met, which could mean an early exit from the tournament.
