In the Asia Cup 2025, Bangladesh secured a hard-fought victory against Afghanistan, winning by 8 runs in the Group B match. The game, played at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium, saw Bangladesh deliver a strong performance, keeping their hopes of progressing to the Super-4 alive. With a focus on securing a win to advance, Bangladesh’s team played effectively against a strong Afghanistan side. Key contributions from Tanzid Hasan, with his powerful half-century, and the bowling of Nasum Ahmed, Rishad Hossain, and Mustafizur Rahman led Bangladesh to the win. The match outcome had implications not just for Bangladesh and Afghanistan, but for Sri Lanka as well, with the result influencing the Super-4 qualification. Litton Das, the Bangladesh captain, chose to bat first. Saif Hasan (30) and Tanzid Hasan accelerated the scoring. Tanzid’s aggressive batting put pressure on the Afghan bowlers, with the team scoring 59 runs in the powerplay without any loss. Despite a slowdown after the powerplay, including Litton Das’ early departure, Tanzid completed his half-century in 28 balls. Tanzid’s dismissal led to a reduced scoring rate for Bangladesh, ultimately finishing at 154 runs. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad each took two wickets.
