Mizoram’s battle against drug peddlers intensified as Assam Rifles launched a four-day offensive, culminating in three major seizures totaling crores in illicit goods. Foreign currency, smuggled tobacco, premium cigarettes, and lethal heroin consignments were confiscated, with four traffickers apprehended in separate incidents.

Kicking off on January 17 in Champhai’s Zotlang area, personnel intercepted a vehicle carrying two suspects. Hidden inside: 174 grams of heroin No. 4, appraised at 1.46 crore rupees on the black market. The duo, vehicle, and drugs were promptly handed to Champhai police for legal proceedings.

January 19 brought action in nearby Jote, where a scooter check led to the capture of K. Thangjalala with 49.6 grams of heroin valued at 39 lakh rupees. The excise and narcotics team took custody of the evidence.

Tuesday’s operation in Siaha district’s Tuipang zeroed in on a currency courier. Seized were Myanmar Kyat worth 1.75 crore rupees, alongside tobacco (50,000 rupees) and cigarettes (1.30 lakh). Tuipang police assumed control.

These triumphs highlight Assam Rifles’ pivotal role in intercepting dangerous consignments infiltrating from Myanmar. As investigations deepen, the operations pave the way for broader disruptions in smuggling syndicates, safeguarding communities from addiction’s grip.
