Daniil Medvedev’s never-say-die attitude propelled him past Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan into the Australian Open 2026 fourth round, triumphing 6-7(5), 4-6, 7-5, 6-0, 6-3 after a two-set hole. The epic nearly four-hour clash showcased the 11th seed’s ability to summon his best when it matters most.

Early dominance belonged to Marozsan, who thrived in marathons rallies, pressuring Medvedev’s backfoot style relentlessly. Yet, the turning point came with a third-set break at 5-5, igniting a ruthless streak of nine consecutive games won. Medvedev’s improved court coverage and power overwhelmed the 47th-ranked player.

Reaching this stage for the 18th time in Grand Slams since his 2017 debut here, Medvedev trails just Djokovic, Zverev, Nadal, and Sinner in reliability. It’s also his fifth such epic comeback in majors.

Reflecting courtside, he noted, ‘He played superbly; I was getting pulled everywhere. But fighting harder changed the momentum.’ With eight wins in 2026 already, including Brisbane, Medvedev meets Learner Tien next. The youngster’s upset over Borges adds intrigue, but Medvedev’s form screams favorite in this marquee matchup.
