Horror in Bangladesh as Deepu Chandra Das, a Hindu man, was violently killed by a mob in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, on Thursday night over alleged blasphemy. The gruesome act involved lynching and burning the victim, with a video of the incident circulating widely on social media.

Sources report that Das, a garment factory worker living locally, was accused of making disparaging comments about Prophet Muhammad. Without substantiation, a mob descended upon him, beating him to death with sticks. The perpetrators then allegedly secured his body to a tree and set it ablaze. Local law enforcement has confirmed the victim’s identity.

The incident has triggered sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal, which has likened the killing to previous violent episodes. The party has pointed to this event as evidence of the dangers posed by unchecked religious extremism and the imperative for protecting minority populations.

This tragedy unfolds amidst broader unrest across Bangladesh following the death of student leader Sharif Usman Hadi. Protests have escalated, marked by property destruction and attacks, raising serious concerns about public safety and the well-being of minority communities. The tense atmosphere is further complicated by anti-India sentiments expressed during some protests, underscoring the region’s fragile stability.
