On October 2nd, the Bangladesh cricket team celebrated an extraordinary day, securing victories against both Pakistan and Afghanistan. This double triumph demonstrated the team’s prowess across different formats and locations. The day commenced with the women’s team’s victory against Pakistan in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup held in Colombo. The men’s team then added to the glory by winning the first T20 match of their series against Afghanistan in Sharjah.

The women’s team’s success in the ODI World Cup set the stage for a day of triumph. The men’s team followed suit, winning their T20 series opener by successfully chasing the set target, with 7 wickets in hand and 13 balls remaining.

In the opening match of the 3-match T20 series, Afghanistan chose to bat first and scored 151 runs, losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. In response, Bangladesh started strong with an opening partnership that hinted at an easy win, needing to score 152 runs. The opening batsmen contributed 109 runs together, each achieving half-centuries. Tanzid Hasan scored 51 runs from 37 balls, and Parvez Hossain Emon made 54 runs in 37 balls.

However, following the break of the opening partnership, Bangladesh’s innings dramatically faltered, losing 6 wickets in the space of 9 runs. Rashid Khan played a key role in this collapse, as the Afghan captain took 4 wickets for 18 runs in 4 overs.

Despite the collapse, Nurul Hasan and Rishad Hossain managed to stabilize the innings, leading their team to a win. Nurul Hasan remained not out with 23 runs, and Rishad Hossain scored 14 runs. Parvez Hossain Emon was awarded the man of the match for his outstanding 54-run performance, helping Bangladesh gain a 1-0 lead in the 3-match T20 series.
