Cuttack: 5T President Karthik Pandian visited Barabati Stadium in Odisha on Wednesday. During this he reviewed the renovation of the stadium. After Pandian’s visit, Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) Secretary Sanjay Behera said that the Barbati Stadium will be completely demolished for the purpose of its transformation. The converted Barbati Stadium will have bucket seats while the seating capacity will be increased from 44,000 to 60,000. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will lay the foundation stone for the development of the stadium on February 27. Behera said that a target has been set to complete the renovation of Barabati Stadium within three years.

According to the information, BCCI, Odisha Government and OCA will be involved in this project. He said that the state government and OCA will spend about Rs 600 crore in this regard. The stadium area will be developed as a world class sports complex with the best facilities for cricket and other sports. Spectators will experience international standards in terms of access to the stadium from roads to parking to galleries, comfortable viewing of matches and facilities like food courts, washrooms etc. The campus will also have facilities for other sports.

Development work will be done around the stadium

The area adjacent to the Barbati Stadium will be developed for a 5-star hotel and office spaces as well as a mall. The area in front of the stadium will be developed as a public plaza and will become one of the main open public spaces for the citizens of Cuttack city. Interacting with coaches and players, Pandian assured that cricket development will be a priority under the 5T transformation and cricket training centers with quality coaching will be developed across the state. Its objective will be to make Odisha a major emerging state in the field of cricket.

Odisha Women’s Cricket Academy will be started in Puri

To improve the competitiveness of Odisha cricket players, he suggested starting a high standard state level cricket league with proper broadcasting facilities this year. Pandian said that women’s cricket will be a major focus area. There are women cricketers in Odisha who are displaying extraordinary talent at the national level. To further encourage and promote women’s cricket development, Odisha Women’s Cricket Academy will be started in Puri shortly. Odisha Cricket Academy in Cuttack will be further upgraded to provide the best coaching facilities for cricketers of all age groups.
