Following India’s victory in the Asia Cup 2025 final, a notable controversy arose involving Mohsin Naqvi, the ACC Chief. Naqvi removed the Asia Cup trophy and the Indian team’s medals and took them to his hotel. This action has sparked a strong response from the BCCI. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed the organization’s displeasure, emphasizing that the Indian team’s reluctance to accept the trophy from Naqvi did not permit him to take the trophy. Saikia viewed this as a breach of sportsmanship.

The presentation ceremony saw the BCCI declining to accept the trophy from Naqvi, with plans to have the Vice-Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board present it instead. Reportedly, Naqvi, displeased by this, then took the trophy and the Indian team’s medals to his hotel, potentially indicating that the trophy was not meant for India.

The BCCI is considering taking action against Naqvi. Secretary Devajit Saikia condemned Naqvi’s conduct, explaining the reasons behind India’s decision not to accept the trophy from him. Saikia highlighted the ongoing conflict between India and the nation represented by the ACC Chairman, which led to the decision. He deemed Naqvi’s behavior unacceptable, demanding the trophy’s return. The BCCI intends to strongly protest the events during the prize distribution ceremony and pursue appropriate action.
