Asha Bhosle, a prominent singer in the Indian music industry, has sung thousands of songs in various languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Bengali, and English. She had a deep passion for singing from her childhood, which became the foundation of her career. After ruling the Indian cinema for about 50 years, Asha Bhosle transformed her other interest into a profession: cooking. She opened restaurants under her name to fulfill this passion.

Asha Bhosle was born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli, Maharashtra. She got married at the age of 16. This marriage was unsuccessful, and later, she married the famous music composer R.D. Burman in 1980. Their marriage continued until Burman’s passing. Her first song was ‘Sawan Aaya’ for the film ‘Chunaria’ (1948). She also sang for the Marathi film ‘Maza Bal’ (1943). On her 92nd birthday, we look at Asha Bhosle’s career and her business.

Following in the footsteps of her elder sister, the late Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle started her career at a young age. In 1949, she married Ganpatrao Bhosle at 16 and had three children. Despite the difficulties in her personal life, she continued her singing career. Her career further flourished after her marriage to R.D. Burman in 1980.

Asha Bhosle sang both romantic and sad songs as a playback singer, and she has also sung most of the superhit item songs of that era. Her evergreen songs include ‘Ek Main Aur Ek Tu,’ ‘Jawani Janeman,’ ‘Hangama Ho Gaya,’ ‘Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo,’ ‘Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani,’ ‘Jhumka Gira Re,’ ‘Koi Shehri Babu,’ ‘Mera Kuchh Samaan,’ ‘Aao Na Gale Lag Jao Na,’ ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja,’ and ‘Radha Kaise Na Jale,’ among others.

Asha Bhosle’s first restaurant, ‘Asha’s,’ opened in 2002 in WAFI, Dubai. Later, franchises were opened in Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Bahrain. These restaurants serve famous Indian food items. During a reality show, she mentioned that she always loved cooking.

She cooked for special guests at home, as requested by R.D. Burman. When her work decreased, she decided to pursue her other passion. Asha Bhosle regularly visits her restaurants and shares updates on Instagram.
