Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the birth anniversary of Bihar’s legendary leader and Bharat Ratna recipient Karpoori Thakur with deep reverence. In his tribute, Modi portrayed Thakur as an eternal symbol of humility and dedication to the downtrodden.

Through a post on X, the PM expressed, ‘Sadar naman to former Bihar Chief Minister and Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpoori Thakur ji on his jayanti. His political journey revolved around empowering the oppressed, neglected, and vulnerable.’ Modi’s words painted a picture of a leader whose simplicity and service ethos continue to resonate.

Sharing a snippet from his address, Modi elaborated, ‘Karpoori Thakur’s simplicity defined him. Committed wholly to social justice and the rise of the deprived, his integrity remains a benchmark. A rare gem for Mother India, our government was blessed to award him Bharat Ratna – a moment of pride.’

Modi affirmed the government’s alignment with Thakur’s vision: ‘Jananayak Karpoori Thakur is our inspiration. Elevating the needy, prioritizing backwards, serving the poor – this is our steadfast pledge.’

Tributes poured in from other quarters too. Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, posted on X: ‘Bowing to social justice vanguard Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpoori Thakur ji on his birth anniversary. His frameworks for reservations benefiting backwards, women, and economically weak sections exemplify true equity.’

Bihar Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary noted, ‘Thakur’s battle for justice, equality, and public good endures as motivation.’

Born in 1924, Karpoori Thakur served as Bihar CM twice and is credited with pioneering OBC reservations, earning him the moniker ‘champion of the backward classes.’ As political figures honor him, his principles of inclusive development stand as a blueprint for addressing India’s persistent inequalities, ensuring his legacy influences policy-making today.
