    ShahpurMuzaffarnagar. Shahpur police station has achieved a major success as part of a special campaign being run under the leadership of Deputy Inspector General of Police Abhishek Singh. Two vicious accused involved in a case of animal theft have been arrested, one of whom was injured in an encounter. Police have also recovered stolen buffaloes and illegal weapons.

    On 1 April, Zulfakar, a resident of village Khataula, lodged a written complaint with the Shahpur police station that on the night of 31 March, unidentified thieves stole his buffalo. As soon as the complaint was received, a case was registered on the instructions of Superintendent of Police Rural Aditya Bansal and a special police team was formed.

    Based on the information received from the informer in the dark of night, the police surrounded the thieves hidden near a tubewell on the Rajwahe of village Nirmana. As soon as the police ordered him to surrender, the accused started firing. The police team retaliated and injured one of the accused Sarfaraz, while the other partner was trying to escape, but the police also nabbed him.

    The operation included sub -inspector Gajendrapal Singh, Vikas Kumar, Shripal Singh, Head Constable Premchand Sharma, Constable Lalit Bhati, Vinay Kumar, Lalit Payal and Hrithik.


    Strict stance of police, warning to criminals

    After this incident, Superintendent of Police Aditya Bansal clarified that no crime in the district will be tolerated. Strict action will be taken in cases of animal theft, robbery and illegal use of weapons. He also appealed to the general public for cooperation and said that any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the police.


    What does the law say?

    A case has been registered against the accused under Section 379 (theft) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Along with, action will also be taken under the Arms Act. If the allegations are proved, they may face severe punishment.


    Local people response to police success

    The villagers have appreciated this action of the police. A local resident said, “Animal theft cases were increasing in this area for the last few months. The action taken by the police is commendable.”


    Animal theft cases: a growing problem

    Animal theft has become a major problem in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh. Gangs that steal cow-buffaloes raised by the hard work of farmers are often active in the border areas. According to the police, gang members are often armed in such cases and do not hesitate to encounter the police.

    Police station Shahpur police said that interrogation of the arrested accused is going on. There is a possibility that even before this, other thieves made by them may be known. A special campaign is also being conducted to catch the absconding thieves.


    This action of Shahpur Police is a strict warning for criminals. Police say it will take more strict action against such gangs. The villagers have been appealed to inform the police about any suspicious activity immediately so that such crimes can be stopped.
