Madhya Pradesh: Under the new excise policy being implemented in the state from April 1, liquor shops will not be operated from religious and educational institutions within a radius of 100 meters. At the same time, 9 shops of indigenous and English liquor operated inside the city will be completely closed due to Datia being declared a religious city at the government level.

The government used to get revenue of about 18 crore rupees annually from these shops in the city, but after the new policy is implemented, this amount will not reach the government treasury. However, liquor licensed shops in other towns of the district will operate in a changed form.

Alcohol sales in the city completely banned
Under the new policy, no liquor shop will operate in the border of Datia city. Currently, Jhansi-Gwalior Highway, Darugar Ki Pulia, Richra Gate, Housing Board Colony, Bhanderi Gate, Dinara Road, Khalakpura, Hathikhana Mohalla, Idgah Mohalla and Gadaria’s outpost are running in domestic and English liquor composite shops.

The operation of all these shops will be stopped from 1 April.
Ban on drinking and drinking in alcohol
Except the city, liquor shops will continue to operate in other towns and rural areas, but in changed form. There will be a complete ban on drinking alcohol sitting in the wine shops operating in towns and rural areas. The customer will have to buy liquor and consume at home or any other safe place.

    Revenue will affect
At present, 70 liquor shops are operated across the district. This number will be reduced to 61 after 9 shops are closed in Datia city. Till now the government used to get revenue of Rs 75 crore 89 lakh from the district, but from April it will be reduced to 57 crore 89 lakh rupees.
Illegal liquor business can get a boost
Local people believe that the closure of licensed liquor shops in the municipality area may increase illegal liquor business. In such a situation, it will be a challenge for the administration to control illegal liquor.

Illegal sales will be severely guarded
On this matter, District Excise Officer Rakesh Rana says, “We are fully prepared to effectively curb the sale of illegal liquor. Continuous action will be taken so that the liquor mafia does not get any chance.”

70 liquor shops operated in the district
09 shops will be closed in Datia city
75 crore 89 lakh rupees were still available
57 crore 89 lakh rupees will now be revenue
